Ovenbird Nest Building

Stackable rope-covered rings simulate the materials for building a nest.

The Arbor Day Foundation’s newest Traveling Exhibit “Life in the Trees: Up, In and Under” will provide a powerful, holistic, sensory experience designed to develop an awe-inspiring memory of participation for both children and adults.

This exhibit will allow visitors to journey through a tree, from canopy to roots. One can walk through a tree trunk and curl up in a cozy fox den beneath the roots or lie in a leafy canopy and imagine soaring over tree tops with the sharp eyes of an eagle… or even the multifaceted eyes of a fly!

“Life in the Trees: Up, In and Under” is broken into three modular components that represent a tree’s canopy, trunk and roots. Each area features a central iconic element with additional interactive stations at the edges to allow for quiet activity. The exhibit is designed to fit within a 1,500 sq. ft. footprint with a maximum element height of 8'0".

Wings, a belly-platform, and a video screen work together to simulate flying with the birds.

It’s the right thing to do for our children. Spending time outdoors is a profoundly needed influence on children today. Research shows they benefit greatly from connecting with nature. And these benefits have a lasting impact, especially when positive outdoor experiences come at an early age.
